Welcome to Moonlit Dreams, a fantasy wolf roleplay where your characters can control an element, come in a rainbow of colors, or just be normal; it's all up to you. Please be sure to read all the rules before doing anything else. Enjoy your stay!
{weather} Winter is finally beginning to break in. The air is getting much colder, prey beginning to hibernate or migrate to warmer areas. Snow has begun to fall, ever so softly, and the leaves on the ground are slowly beginning to be covered. As the year nears its close, the wolves are hoping that the past year's blizzard won't repeat itself.
Each Malfasiant wolf has been judged by the leaders of Nahal and Samara and been sentenced to death, to exile, or to be held as a prisoner-of-war. The effects of the battle can plainly be seen on the pelts and the hearts of all, and some scars will never heal, but now that the Malfasiant pack has been disbanded, Sorrento can breathe easier knowing that their nightmares are over. They can only hope that such events will never repeat themselves.
10.31.09// Happy Halloween ;D It's been a long time since there was an announcement o-o I'll try to update this more often. I'm really sorry I haven't been posting ( or updating anything, such as OTM's ), but I've had a lot of stress going on in my life. There will be an activity check beginning tomorrow. The form will be the same as the last one, so just copy your old one and add in any updates. I'm going to get this site active once again, so we're all RPing and everything is updated. I'm also going to be a bit stricter on biographies. There will be threads coming up soon-- instead of the staff picking them, members will pick the OTM's by PMing me their votes. For the time of the activity check and a couple days after, you will not be able to make a character. So, if you have one that is incomplete, either remove it and PM it to yourself or something or finish it before the activity check is posted. There is going to be a new plot coming up soon, which will also be members' choice. Due to the fact that I haven't been posting and I know a lot of characters have been a bit inactive, there will be a third board in the character creation area for frozen characters. There will be more information on that later.
As soon as the activity check is over, there will be a lot of changes. First, all those threads mentioned above ( as well as some others ) will be made. After that, I'm going to be adding in a ton of new codes. Next would be the skin, new mascot, and probably more boards. At some point the site is likely to go into MM for, at most, two days, but that doesn't mean that you can become inactive. The rules will also be edited, and I'm probably going to begin forcing people to make different accounts for each character so they can be sorted into groups. Please try to PM me all the links to threads that you don't want archived. Sooner or later, there will be auditions for spots that are opened, bans will be placed, and other such things will be happening. Just prepare yourself for major changes here. I may already start working on the codes, so don't be alarmed if the site looks screwed up.
Kitsu.
This is where all of the site's important information can be found, including the almighty rules of the land. Follow them or face the consequences. You must read everything here! The password to make your biography can be found in the rules.
(1 sub-board) Find out what's going on around the site. All important announcements will be posted here. Minor announcements can be found in the "news" table below the banner. Make sure to post in the activity checks!
(1 sub-board) Post here with an advertisement for a site you think someone here would enjoy, or ask to affiliate with Moonlit Dreams. For affiliates, banners must be a good size or I will resize it myself, and our banner must be up before you post. Please read the rules for affiliation found inside.
(5 sub-boards) Here, members can come and discuss things, hold polls and contests, play games, or anything else that comes to mind. This is just a place to hang out while you are waiting for a reply or something. Try not to spam. Also, keep in mind that everything here is out of character - unless you are posting something under the tutoring board, there is no roleplaying here.
(2 sub-boards) Once you have read all of the rules, you come here to create your character. There's a thread here that contains more important information, including the form for creating your biography. Keep in mind, you cannot start roleplaying until your bio has been accepted by a staff member.
Here you can post the stats of all your charries in one thread. There's no form to fill out - you can put whatever you want. Be creative! Keep in mind that this is completely optional. You don't have to do this, but it's a nice way of getting to know your characters.
If you don't want to keep a character anymore but don't want to kill it off, put it up for adoption here! You may also post mate or friend requests, plot with other members, or adopt a charrie of your own. Read the rules before posting please.
When your wolf dies, their biography is posted here in memory of them. PM me with a link to their bio and the thread where they died. May they rest in peace...
- 1 Viewing (1 sub-board) Possibly derived from the biblical place name Samaria, which means "watch mountain" in Hebrew.
High in the mountains lives the pack of Samara. The wolves here are kind and welcoming, and the leaders are known for being compassionate. Close ties bond this pack together into a family. The camp is nestled between two towering stone cliffs, and only the pack's members know how to navigate through the caverns and crevices of this mountainous terrain to get into the camp. The camp itself is surrounded by small cliffs, making it very safe from tresspassers. Snow is common on the highest peaks of the territory, and prey is still plentiful despite the dangerous conditions. Mostly you'll find large animals, like deer or mountain lions, and what few small prey you can find are hard to catch. Birds of prey are always seen flying overhead.
From an English surname which was derived from a name meaning "still water" in Old French.
At the edge of Samara's packlands you will hear the rushing of water. A large waterfall, found in a clearing within the forest, cascades down the mountain into a little pool. The current at the top is swift and deadly; you don't want to fall from that height. The pool that forms at the bottom starts out shallow with little minnows darting to and fro. About halfway out into the pool, it starts getting steadily deeper. The fish also grow in size the farther out you go. Behind the falls' sheet of water is a little cave, hidden from view; few know of its existence, and none know to where it leads.
Possibly derived from Greek (letho) "hidden, forgotten". In Greek mythology she was the mother of Apollo and Artemis by Zeus.
The Leto Cave is a large, dark cave hidden somewhere near Mortimer Falls. Creatures of all kinds slither through the cave, sometimes finding secret entrances to Samara's camp or the Abyss Cavern. Inside, various plants grow from the walls or ground. Flowers grow near the entrance, and two trees block it from view. Only a small wolf could squeeze in through the few gaps that there are, but members of the Samara pack are aiming at finding an entrance that can easily be used without them being seen. Due to the hole being next to the camp, it would be a safe place to hide during an ambush.
The Nahal pack is known for their fondness of water. Their camp is set deep within the forest, between a fork in the river that runs through their territory, virtually unreachable except for the ones who know where to cross. The current is fast and strong, suited for the members of this pack to swim through, but for no one else. Air, water, and ice elementals usually find it easy enough to get across the river, so the territory is guarded strictly. Nahal pack wolves are extremely strong swimmers, even pups and elders. Wherever the river isn't flowing through, trees are the main part of this pack's territory. Fish is the main diet of these wolves, but other small prey like voles and rabbits are eaten as well.
From an Old English surname which was derived from a name meaning "town at the source of the river".
Nahal's territory contains a river flowing through most of it. A calm part of the river is located in the middle of the forest, where many gather to spend the day. Here it is shallow and slow, a few fish darting here and there. The water is freezing - no outsider, other than an ice elemental, can survive in the river for more than a minute. Nahal's inhabitants seem immune to the temperature, however. There are small rapids further along, and it's best to keep away from that area, especially newcomers and the inexperienced.
Means "the black one" in Sanskrit. The Hindu goddess Kali is the fierce destructive form of the wife of Shiva. She is usually depicted with black skin and four arms, holding a severed head and brandishing a sword.
Nahal's territory is spotted with meadows. Due to a fire years ago, so long ago that only the oldest silver elementals can remember, each area is stained black, though everything should have decayed long ago. The magic that the forests hold, keeping the elements strong and letting wolves come in their multiple colors, makes it so that the ashen remnants remain in the meadows, always crumbling into the grass. Now many wolves believe that the grass is growing black instead of green; however, nobody really cares enough to get close enough down to look.
The Malfasiant pack was led by Cadeyrn, a former member of Samara. His heart was dark and twisted, reflecting onto his former territory. The feel of elements run strongly here, as that was what the pack was made of. The pack's camp was deep within the canyons along the outskirts of Sorrento. This barren land is arid - nothing grows here, it barely ever rains, and the only source of water is a small stream that trickles through the camp. The canyons soar high above the camp, and are difficult to maneuver through. Tread with caution in this blood-stained land.
Means "death" in Slavic. In Slavic mythology this was the name of the goddess of winter and death.
After leaving the canyonlands behind, a loner would arrive in the grasslands of Malfasiant's former territory. The plains stretch for miles, the dry wild grasses reaching past the knees of most wolves. There are few rolling hills, but other than that the land is mostly flat, and occasionally you'll find a tree or two to shade you from the day's scorching heat. The prey here is quick and can see anyone coming toward them, so be careful to crouch low so they won't spot you.
From a French surname which was derived from corbeau "raven", originally denoting a person who had dark hair. The name was probably popularized in America by actor Corbin Bernsen (1954-).
The Corbin Claws lie beneath the side of the canyon. They contain hundreds or thousands of stone spikes, jutting up from the ground. If a wolf were unlucky enough to fall or jump down and not get caught by their own wings or another wolf's, they'd be smashed against the rocks. Say some nasty, vicious rogue doesn't feel like murdering a certain wolf on a certain day, they'd drag them to the top of the canyon and push them down to watch the rocks pierce their flesh as if it were a mere leaf. It covers maybe ten feet from each edge, so there is a minute chance of surviving. There is enough space between each five foot 'claw' for a wolf to walk comfortably through. Oddly enough, small prey runs well here.
From the Old Norse Víðarr, which is possibly derived from víðr "forest" and arr "warrior". In Norse mythology Víðarr was the son of Odin and Grid. At the time of the end of the world, the Ragnarok, he will avenge his father's death.
Shared by all the packs and the largest territory in Sorrento, Vidar Forest is usually inhabited by many wolves at once. It spans from one side of Sorrento to the other, bordering every pack's territory. Tall trees tower overhead, scarcely letting any sunlight through the thick canopy in some places. All species of trees can be found here, from pine to oak to rowan, all thriving here along with other plants and animals. Prey of all sizes can be found, adding to the effect of a safe and comfortable place to spend the day. But not all wolves share the same intent - dark souls also tread here, finding the dense coverage and large area a perfect place to hide and corner the weak and innocent. Silvers also tend to roam these lands unseen, preferring the solitude of the forest.
If Vidar Forest is the largest expanse of territory above ground, then the Abyss Cavern is definitely the largest below ground. Countless caves and tunnels stretch across almost all of Sorrento. Once you get in, you most likely won't ever find your way out - at least, not by the same way you came in, for there are countless entrances, most of which haven't even been discovered. You must be extremely careful not to get lost... although, that's not the only problem you'll face. The many twists and turns make it difficult to tell if someone is nearby. Wolves who get stuck here become desperate... Be careful not to cross paths with those you'll regret ever facing. The occasional mouse might scurry past you, but other than that, don't expect to find anything to eat in here.
Although most wouldn't think of a swamp as the most comforting place to spend the day, Aysu Bog is probably the safest area outside the packlands. Rogues and loners tend to try to stay in places with a lot of prey - something that you won't find here anytime soon. The water is knee deep towards the shallower areas, but no one quite knows how deep the center is. Who would want to find out? The water is so murky, you can't see to the bottom. Who knows what could be lurking under there... Other than yourself, it is quite rare to find any other source of life. Even the trees look dead. Spooky, yet still a sort of 'safe haven' for those seeking solitude.
Means "ocean" in Turkish, ultimately from Persian.
Once you reach the end of the forest, miles of sand greet your way onto the ocean. The tides are strong in most parts, and only for experienced wolves to dare to wade in. Many make the mistake of trying to drink from the salty water, only to find its taste to be utterly unpleasant. Most loathe the taste of the fish here, too. At both ends of the beach are soaring cliffs, some of which contain caves - only those with wings can reach them. On the far left end, before you reach the cliffs there, the sand turns to pebbles, and large boulders reach out into the water. On the far right, the forest breaks immediately to the ocean, with no sandy shores in between. Sea birds are pretty much the only other animals found here, other than the occasional shark.
Means "serpent bearer" in Greek. This is the name of an equatorial constellation which depicts the god Asklepios holding a snake.
Ophiuchus Mountain lies to the south of Vidar Forest. No pack dared to claim it, and only recently did loners begin to wander there to live. It has hundreds of tiny caves dotted all over it; standing at several miles and made out of rock and grass, that's what would be expected. Its rough terrain makes it nearly impossible to make it to the top. Air elementals can't; the air gets too thin by the time they get three-fourths of the way up. It would take an earth or leaf elemental to break away stones and climb, but no wolf has yet tried. It gained its name because each of the caves used to contain at least one snake.
Means "stretch of sand" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this was both a place name and a masculine personal name.
The clearing is a long stretch of sand at the foot of the Ophiuchus Mountain. It is a fighting place or a training place for all three packs, and loners are permitted to come and watch. Most wolves are challenged to a duel - to the death or surrender. Though many attempt to refuse, the opponent often tries to attack anyway. Wolves stop here to rest and hunt before they take a journey up the mountain, to find a home or to try to reach the top and see what awaits there. There are rumors that bears come here and prey on sleeping wolves... beware.
